Parent Involvement Plan

2024-2025

Southworth Elementary is committed to providing quality education for every child in this district. To this end, we want to establish partnerships with parents and the community. Everyone gains if Southworth Elementary and home work together to promote high achievement by our children. Neither home nor Southworth Elementary can do the job alone. Parents plan an extremely important role as children's first teachers. Support for their children and for the school is critical to children's success at every step along the way.

Southworth Elementary recognizes that some students may need the extra assistance available through the Title I program to reach the state's high academic standards. Southworth Elementary intends to include parents in all aspects of the school's Title I program. The goal is a school-home partnership that will help all students to succeed.

PART I - SCHOOL PARENT AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT POLICY/PLAN REQUIRED COMPONENTS

Southworth Elementary will jointly develop/revise with parents the school's Parent and Family Engagement policy/procedures and distribute them to parents. The school will also make the policy/procedures available to the local community.

  • Establish a Parent Advisory Committee. Interested parents will be invited to join during September and again during Fall conferences.
  • The Parent Advisory Committee will review the Title I Program documents and recommend changes as necessary.
  • If changes are made, all families of participating students will be given copies of the new Title I documents via paper or electronic delivery by December 20, 2024.

Convene an annual meeting at a convenient time, to which all parents of participating children shall be invited and encouraged to attend, to inform parents of their school’s participation under this part, and to explain the requirements of this part and the right of the parents to be involved.

A. The Southworth Elementary Title I Program will:

  • Schedule two Title I open houses on an evening during fall and spring conferences.
  • Hold two parent advisory meetings to keep parents informed and current on the Title I program. 

B. Southworth Elementary Title I Program will provide parents with timely information about the Title I Program:

  • Families will receive revised plans by December 20, 2024 either in paper form or electronically.
  • Families will receive a progress report during the 1st and 3rd quarters from the classroom teachers. 
  • Families will receive report cards showing progress during the 2nd and 4th quarters from the classroom teachers. 

C. If the schoolwide program plan is not satisfactory to the parents of participating children, submit any parent comments when the school makes the plan available to the district.

D. A description and explanation of the school's curriculum, the academic assessments used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet.

  • This information will be given at parent nights and parent conferences scheduled in November and March.

E. Parents may request a meeting to formulate suggestions and participate in decisions relating to their children's education, as appropriate.

PART II - REQUIRED SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES FOR HIGH STUDENT ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

To ensure the effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership between the school and families, Southworth Elementary Title I Program will:

  • As appropriate, we will assist parents in understanding topics such as the state’s academic standards, state and district assessments, and how to monitor their child’s progress. We will also provide information regarding how to work with staff to improve their child's achievement.
  • Upon request, provide materials and training to help parents work with their child to improve their child’s achievement.
  • When feasible and appropriate, coordinate and integrate parent involvement programs and activities with the Learning Assistance Program.
  • Ensure that parents receive information related to school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language they can understand.
  • Adopt and implement model approaches to improving parent involvement.
  • May support school meetings at a variety of times, using various methods of communication, between teachers or other educators, who work directly with participating children.

PART III - BUILDING CAPACITY FOR PARENTS AND STAFF – REQUIREMENTS FOR ENGAGEMENT

PART IV - ACCESSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

In carrying out the parental involvement requirements, the school shall provide opportunities for the participation of parents with migratory children and parents of children with limited English proficiency or disabilities. This includes providing information in a format, and to the extent practical, in a language that parents can understand.

PART V - UNRESOLVABLE COMPLAINT PROCEDURE

Upon exhausting all avenues of reasonable conflict resolution with the school, parents have the right to lodge a formal complaint with the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

PART VI - ADOPTION 

This Southworth Elementary Parent and Family Engagement Policy/Procedures has been revised jointly with, and agreed upon with, parents of children participating in the Title I program, as evidenced by meeting minutes.

The Parent and Family Engagement Policy/Procedures were revised by Southworth Elementary on 11/8/24 and will be in effect for the 2024-25 school year. The school will distribute these to all parents of participating Title I children and make them available to the community on or before 12/20/24.
